This rug is beautiful! It's actually Arts and Craft style which I love. Ogi brought it to my home, put a pad underneath, and it feels very cozy on my feet. I've gotten many compliments on it already. I would shop here again. Ogi and his brother were very Covid conscious. I felt comfortable having them inside my house.
These guys were better than professional they were very friendly too. I had minimal knowledge about rugs and they gave me 101 and didn't make me feel silly and were happy to show me LOTs of rugs. When I was on the fence about my choice they brought the rug to my house the next day so I could I see it in the space and even brought additional similar rugs. They even helped me move some furniture. I'd absolutely go to them again and you should too. CASH is king
Ogi the owner is super professional and is real easy to work with. He's authentic and really wants the buyer to be happy. He brought numerous rugs to our house, and took the time to understand what we like and didn't like, at the end of the day we're very happy and the pricing seemed very fair. I will be going back to Istanbul Rug in the future and would recommend to anyone looking for these types of rugs.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff with such a wide range and selection of different types of rugs, it's difficult to chose. The prices are very reasonable considering the time put into these handwoven beauties. I was amazed by how much there is to know about different types. They are art and each one is beautiful in its own way. It really brightened my living room. They are also goodweave certified which is important.
The people at Istanbul Rug were super helpful in listening to our needs and design aesthetic. They seemed enthused about their rugs and were genuinely interested in finding something right for us. After going through a stack of Rugs, we came upon the most beautiful and mesmerizing Tibetan rug we had ever seen. After hearing the price, we realized there was no way we'd be able to afford it. Right at that moment the owner came in the front door and came over to us--inviting us to take off our shoes and to walk and sit on the carpet. He told us where it had been made the workmanship and quality of the materials. He could see how much we wanted it and in short order made what seemed like an impossible dream a reality. We love our rug and had a great experience dealing with both the staff and owner.
After months of online browsing for a rug for our living room, I wandered into Istanbul Rug's new store in San Rafael. It is a beautiful, bright showroom. I was immediately welcomed by the owner, Ogi. He asked what size, style and colors I was looking for and then directed me to a collection of rugs that I might like. No doubt, there were some beauties, but I also knew they were out of my price range, and we quickly eliminated them from consideration. Yes, within their collection are handmade rugs that are a significant investment - It is up to the buyer to set your price and hold firm and not fall in love with a rug that is more than you plan to spend. Next time, I will heed my own advice...
Ogi is a great salesman and he knows his business. He offered to bring several rugs to my home and I welcomed the opportunity to see them in place. This is one thing you can't do with shopping online (a bit hard to verify colors and order/return several rugs) and I believe that is an added value for which paying a bit more is reasonable. Two rugs were beautiful in our room and, after a bit of negotiation, we settled on one. It is not only beautiful, but it is an Istanbul Rug original design. It is crafted in India, with bamboo silk, so be sure to ask for full details about rug origin and differences. I have some concerns that it is less durable than a wool rug, but it is in our living room, not a high traffic area.
We are very pleased to support a local, family owned business and Ogi and his staff were friendly and passionate about their trade. They are either very genuine in wanting to establish themselves for long-term relationships or very good salesman (Okay, Ogi is a very good and likable salesman.) I trust that he has made an investment in integrity for the long term, as he expands the family business into Marin, and we look forward to enjoying our rug for many years, as well the opportunity to return to Istanbul Rugs for future purchases.
The new Istanbul Rug is in West End of San Rafael in the old Bananas Music store location with giant windows which allow you to see the amazing number of rugs there in natural light. There's also a huge amount of room in the center which enables you to see multiple rugs side by side , making for easy comparison.
The owner Ogi is a 2nd generation rug dealer, continuing in the family business with a terrific personality & lots of knowledge.
I highly recommend you stop in, even just for a look-see - the interior design is fabulous & you may even end up with a great rug, like I did!
